Crowns & Bridges

If you have a damaged or decayed tooth, our dentists can help you choose the best solution. Crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth prosthetics that function and look like natural, healthy teeth.

Crowns

A crown, also known as a cap, is custom-fitted to you and is placed over your natural tooth or dental implant. We recommend this procedure for those who have an intact tooth without root decay. The tooth may be damaged or decayed on the other surfaces.

Procedure:

  1. We will reduce the tooth for a proper crown fit

  2. A digital scan will be acquired for crown fabrication or can be sent to lab

  3. Proper shade match ensured

  4. We will mill your permanent crown in office

  5. Permanent crown will be placed on the same day, if sent to lab we will schedule you comeback for placement of the crown

Bridges

To replace a missing tooth that has neighboring teeth with decay and/or large fillings, or a tooth that has been missing for a long time (i.e., with gum recession around the area). Bridges are an option for replacing missing teeth as opposed to dental implants.

Types of Bridges:

  • Traditional — Caps are bonded over teeth adjacent to missing teeth (3 or more units)

  • Cantilever — Cap is bonded over a single tooth next to the missing one (2-Unit)

  • Maryland Bridge — Porcelain or plastic teeth supported by metal “wings” on back of adjacent teeth. Minimal prep-work on adjacent teeth, but much less reliable long-term.

Bridge fabrication and placement can be done in office on the **same day, you will have your bridge fabricated in a morning visit and we will place it in a afternoon visit, for your convenience. Temporary bridge will be placed at the first visit. This temporary bridge can be worn for much longer than the day. Sometimes, it is still necessary to have a lab fabricate the bridge. In which case, the temporary will be worn for approximately 2 weeks. **Most can be done in office, but length or span of the bridge, as well as other factors, may deem it necessary to use outside dental lab.
